Run by local Shrewsbury-based coffee roasters Iron & Fire, the coffee shop is central to the redevelopment of the store and its extensive refurbishment programme. Relocated to front of house on the ground floor and dramatically increased in size, to over 45 covers, Iron & Fire’s coffee has proven immensely popular with Cousins’ customers and the local community.Like Cousins, Iron & Fire are a true family business. It was founded in 2014 by Kevin Burrows upon his return from Melbourne, Australia where amazing coffee is a way of life. There he’d spent a decade learning the art of roasting coffee beans in the very home of 3rd wave coffee. His desire to share his knowledge, along with the enthusiasm of his partner Jo, led to the organic growth of the business and the launch of the Iron & Fire roastery in Shrewsbury. From here they also sell the full selection of Sage coffee machine and carry out barista training.

Jo and Kevin’s strong ethos is central to everything they do, from the sourcing to their high level of customer service. They’re extremely careful about how they select their coffees, not only based on their quality and taste profile but also their origins and accreditations. Many of their coffees are Rainforest Alliance and Organically certified. Those that aren’t have been selected from independent farms so they can support the growers directly. The proceeds from some of their coffees go towards some fantastic community projects in the growing areas of Africa, Central and South America. Iron and Fire are also environmentally conscious. They use 100% compostable packaging and run a composting scheme from the Iron & Fire Coffee roastery in Shrewsbury.
