Q. Does memory foam make you hot?

After back pain, nothing’s more disruptive to your sleep than being too hot in bed.

Cousins Furniture offer a wide variety of mattresses including those with memory foam as their primary filling. Leading brands include Tempur, Mammoth and Silentnight, all of whom are represented in our bedding ranges.

Tempur mattresses are designed to respond to body temperature, which activates their ability to conform to your body, offering support and reducing pressure points. It is worth noting that with the improved support and reduced pressure points on your body, sleeping on our mattresses can help improve circulation, so you may find you need lighter bedding.

A well-publicised characteristic of memory foam mattresses is that they’re warm to sleep on, making them potentially uncomfortable if you’re a warm sleeper, live in a hot climate or during the warmer summer months. This can also be an advantage if the opposite scenarios are true!

Nowadays the heat retention can be reduced by introducing cooling materials, such as gel, in the upper comfort layers. Also, by utilising an innovative cooling surface material such as Tencel or a fabric with inherent cooling fibres in it, you’ll cool your sleeping environment.

Selecting a duvet with a slightly lower tog-rating will also help the cause.

Q. Do you sell traditional natural filling mattresses?

Cousins showcase many traditional, hand-tufted mattresses which have sumptuous comfort layers of natural fillings. As well as our own Cousins Bespoke collections, we have large galleries from leading brands Harrison Beds, ViSpring, Hypnos and Rest Assured.

It takes a whole year to grow the materials for one Harrison mattress, making it a true testimony to British craftsmanship.

Hypnos are a trusted bed supplier to the royal family and have been handcrafting beds for over 100 years. Cousins Bespoke Beds use time-honoured skills, passed down from generation to generation, along with the finest materials and latest technology to ensure that each bed is expertly made to very exacting standards.

Comfort layers of wool and natural cotton in mattresses help to regulate body temperature and wick away moisture. They also tend to be hypo-allergenic, making them ideal for people suffering from allergies. Natural fillings are also a more sustainable option for our planet.

Q. I don’t want to turn the mattress

A.

We have a large choice of non-turn mattresses, which don’t require turning, just rotating from head-to-toe.

All of our mattresses have flag-stitched handles to make this task easier, albeit we would always recommend that two people carry out this function.

Q. Does the bedframe include the mattress?

A.

If you are interested in one of our stylish bedframes these are sold individually so that customers can choose a mattress of their choice to go with them

Q. What storage can I get with a divan?

Q. Can I pick a divan base with another mattress?

You can personalise the bed to how you want, mix and match

Q. Do you do a trial period on the mattresses?

No, we recommend narrowing the mattress selection down to 2-3 and then spending some time on them before making your final decision

Q. Can I use my existing headboard?

A.

We would always suggest checking the type of fitment on the back of the bed to see if it tallies with the headboard.

Q. Is a firm mattress good for a bad back?

A.

Very often customers approach us asking us to help them to find a mattress which is good for a back bad. However, it’s a common misconception that if you have a bad back that you must buy a firm mattress.

If your Doctor, Physiotherapist, or Chiropractor has not advised you to look for a firm mattress and if you’re not the recommended weight for a firm mattress, we’ll ask you to try out different tensions of mattress, including those of softer and medium comfort.

The most suitable mattress for you will offer optimal support by allowing your spine to rest in its natural alignment, alleviating pressure on your hips and shoulders which should all be correctly supported. The correct pillow will help prevent neck-ache.

You should be just able to move your hand between the small of your back and the mattress surface on a correctly supportive mattress.
