Common Bed Shopping Questions – Part 2
In part two of Cousins ‘Common Bed Shopping questions’ we’ll review key things to look for in a bed or divan base, as well as the flexibility and options that Cousins Furniture can offer its customers.
We’ve asked our Beds & Bedroom Sales Advisors, Debbie and Yvonne, for their advice to customers on the following questions:
1. “Does it make a difference to the strength of the bed if you have drawers?”
Customers often think that drawers will weaken the strength of a bed, but in fact it actually strengthens it, in additional to offering practical storage solutions to help keep your bedroom tidy. When bed manufacturers add drawers to a divan base they do not remove any supporting structures or change the design of the bed base.
2. “Do drawers make a difference to how the bed feels?”
When you are sitting or asleep on your bed you should not be able to tell whether it has drawers or not. In fact, having drawers can overall improve the overall structure and support of your bed.
3. “Is a sprung base better than a hard base?”
Neither one is better than the other. With a hard base you’ll only need to update your mattress every 8 or so years. A sprung base can actually help to improve the longevity of the mattress.
A sprung base is the most luxurious option and features a complete open coil or pocket spring unit mounted onto a frame which acts like a giant shock absorber, increasing the mattress's durability and softness.
4. “Can you choose different colours for the headboard and base”

We have beds that range style from traditional to contemporary, and mirrored panelled bedsteads to divans which are neatly upholstered in a variety of different fabrics.

5. “Do we sell the mattress/headboard/base on its own?”
Most of the beds we have on display can be sold as a bed set or each item such as the mattress, headboard or base can be purchased separately. You can mix and match.
We understand that most customers aren’t looking to buy a complete bed set in one go, and often update different parts of their bed at different times.
