As a bright, crimson red, the boldness of Viva Magenta balances should provide all the style inspiration that you will need to adorn any room.

Whether this is through an accent colour using a variety of accessories, or a bespoke sofa that is unique to your living room, is entirely up to you!

With so many choices it can be difficult to know where to start but we have collated some ideas that will hopefully inspire you to get creative

What is The Pantone Colour Of the Year?

The Pantone Color Institute originally created the Pantone Color of the Year educational program in 1999 to engage the design community and colour enthusiasts around the world in a conversation about colour.

We wanted to draw attention to the relationship between culture and colour. We wanted to highlight to our audience how what is taking place in our global culture is expressed and reflected through the language of colour.

This thought process rings just as true today just as it did back in 1999. That’s one of the major reasons why, each year, so many around the world look forward to our Pantone Color of the Year announcement.

Colour is ultimately used to express emotions and inspire and is a powerful visual tool to be tapped into and to influence a mood.

Viva Magenta will fit into a dynamic and flexible colour scheme to use as you wish. Ease, comfort and respite are key qualities to conveying enduring sophistication.

Pantone is in the business of colour. Since 1963, Pantone has provided colour solutions for colour needs.

Today Pantone’s colour language is used by designers worldwide to access colour trends, communicate colour choices, and control the consistency of colour across every imaginable surface, texture, material, and finish.

About Viva Magenta

Pantone describes their Colour of The Year, Viva Magenta 18-750, as a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength.

Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.

An animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and boundless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.

Viva Magenta welcomes anyone and everyone with the same verve for life and
rebellious spirit.

As a nuanced crimson red tone that presents a balance between warm and cool, Viva Magenta is also a hybrid colour, one that comfortably straddles the physical and virtual in our multi-dimensional world.

It is assertive, but not aggressive, a carmine red that does not boldly dominate but instead takes a “fist in a velvet glove” approach.

Exuding dynamism, Viva Magenta is a transformative red tone capable of driving design to create a more positive future.

Magenta is a vibrant and warm tone and sits midway between red and blue. It's often described as a pinkish, purplish red, and in the words of Pantone, it's 'audacious, full of wit and inclusive of all.

A Pop of Colour

This shade works radiantly as an accessory — pair it with pale greys, blues, or pastels.

Or, if you want to try out the monochromatic trend, combine it with other pinks and shades of reds and oranges to command the room.

It is the perfect shade for minimalists who want to dip their toes in the maximalist pool.

Think of it as an accent shade that can be used in pockets throughout the home, from a vase full of flowers to woodwork, panelling and soft furnishings such as cushions.

Daring designers can harness the full power of the Color of the
Year as a velvet couch or lacquered wall.

Those who desire a more neutral home can use it as a pop of colour.

As a lighting fixture or striking floral arrangement punctuating an all-neutral dining room, or a glowing abstract canvas in a white entryway, Viva Magenta packs a lot of drama in a small dose.

A good place to start if you’re thinking about changing things up
is to look at your current colour scheme.

The easiest, and most cost-effective, way of introducing any new colour into a room is by using accessories.

Sometimes purchasing a large item of furniture is daunting but adding incremental pieces can be an ideal way to start the journey.

Use of just one stand-alone ornamental item can be used as a focal point or a plethora of embellishments can add the perfect finishing touch to a design scheme.

Artwork, with even just a hint of Viva Magenta, will be sure to stand the test of time and provide an accent colour that can be used as the vision for the remainder of the room or to liven up a neutral palette.

Whether contrasting or co-ordinating with other aspects such as feature walls, bold colours can be highlighted or offset according to your own personal
choice.

Wall art, including mirrors and clocks, can also introduce period elements to a room that would not usually be associated with using such a contemporary colour as Viva Magenta.

Opulent and reflective, even such small details as frames can carry through the theme that you are aspiring to.

Soft furnishings such as throws, cushions and rugs provide the opportunity to complement, while at the same time introducing texture and shade which can play an important role.

Natural fibre cushions and rugs showcase beautiful textures and warm colours.

Decorative faux plants and foliage in corresponding shades and hues add the finishing touches to a room setting.

Using colour is an excellent way of expressing new ideas, and adding warmth and versatility to your living space.

Solid colours can be utilised either on the walls with neutral furniture or
vice versa.

Using such bold colours is a brilliant way to be adventurous and make a statement in your living room by enhancing a bright, vibrant Viva Magenta sofa against harmonised walls and flooring that will bring the colour together.

Neutral-coloured seating with sleek and uncomplicated lines can work with a brighter, bolder wall in Viva Magenta and artwork that can reflect the predominant colours used elsewhere in the living or dining room.

The use of limited colours can pull different elements together that you
would not usually think of putting together.

Adding further touches such as highly textured or geometric patterned rugs will make a living room or bedroom more colourful and interesting.

Wooden flooring can add to the warm feeling of the room and, if the right colour, can lift the whole room.

Alternatively, if you prefer carpet, a grey colour would be the perfect base for stunning furniture.

For Something a Bit Different

'This hue might seem too dramatic for some but don’t be fooled. This pink is the perfect midway between cool and warm, shocking and soothing, so even if you’re a tad colour shy there’s bound to be a place for this. Pair with greys for a stylish contemporary scheme.' - Thea Babington-Stitt, Ideal Home Assistant Editor

The red connotations of Viva Magenta mean it can be used to create a cosy and inviting environment.

A bedroom should, after all, be your sanctuary where you can relax and enjoy downtime.

An abundance of methods of adorning your sleeping space with rich cushions and throws is an ideal way of mixing and matching colours and textures, making your bedroom that much more inviting.

A splash of Viva Magenta will instantly liven up a neutral-coloured item and a daring accent colour can be subtly echoed in a multitude of additional decorative pieces.

The discernible way to introduce a new colour would be through luxurious velvets and fabrics on a divan and ottoman beds or headboards.

Varying designs and sizes will mean that you will be sure to find the look that you are aiming for or even one that you had not thought of before.

Sofa beds, tub and accent chairs are other avenues for introducing a new design genre to your room.

These can also be complemented by bedroom furniture such as mirrored wardrobes, chests and dressing tables whichever style is your choice.
