How to care for my reclaimed style furniture?

At Cousins Furniture we pride ourselves on offering friendly and expert advice, not only to help you choose the best furniture to suit your needs but also to help you care for it after delivery.
What is reclaimed style furniture?
Reclaimed style furniture re-uses various materials to help create an on-trend, industrial look. Key components that are often used include: reclaimed timbers, reclaimed railway sleepers, reclaimed roof beams or floorboards, natural woods and teak root bases (as well as concrete or tiled surfaces). They often feature natural characteristics such as variations in wood shading or graining, nail holes, knots and grooves, plus general signs of its age or being naturally weathered.
The reclaimed timber is quite often accented with concrete or tiled surfaces, plus maybe black industrial ironmongery or polished chrome framework to give it a contemporary twist.

Reclaimed furniture is more sustainable, allowing used and aged pieces of wood and timber a new lease of life. Each piece will also be unique with its own natural characteristics allowing for added character and creating a statement piece in your home. This style has a fashionable aged look, and is often warm and rustic, and a full range or an eclectic piece will suit any traditional or contemporary kitchen, dining room, bedroom, living room, or office.

How do I care for my reclaimed style furniture?
We take great pride in offering high quality pieces of furniture which have been carefully manufactured or hand crafted by our chosen suppliers.
Our reclaimed style furniture from Cousins Furniture quite often comes lightly coated in a lacquer seal for added everyday practicality. But to enjoy your furniture for years to come, there are additional steps you can take to care for your furniture.

Moving your furniture
Be very careful when you need to move your furniture, always ask for help. And if your furniture will be placed on wooden floors we suggest using protective felt stoppers on the base to protect this.
Also take the time to consider where your furniture will be placed. Try to keep your furniture out of direct sunlight, and avoid placing in rooms which may get too hot or cold.
Protecting your furniture
Do not place hot dishes or cups onto your furniture, always use a coaster or a placemat. If you’re having a big party, also consider using a table cloth and table protector. Industrial style surfaces also look good protected by a covering sheet of safety glass, protecting it from spillages, whilst giving it a more perfect surface and not hiding its natural character appeal.
Avoid contact with sharp objects, and supervise children when they are working on activities at the table.
Cleaning your furniture
Always clean up any spills immediately using a clean damp cloth. Avoid using any chemicals.
Regularly and gently dust your furniture with a soft cloth. A good quality, natural beeswax polish can be used to safely enhance the appearance of your furniture, but wax and silicone-based finishes are not recommended.

Cabinet Care Programmes
Our furniture has a 12 month retailer guarantee which begins the day after delivery. If you do need any assistance during this time you can contact our helpful and experienced Customer Services team to advise you.
At the point of sale, our Sales Advisors will also have discussed the merits of purchasing one of our care programmes, as they can provide you with 5 years peace of mind.
