Preview: Our Newly Upgraded Shrewsbury Furniture Store
During lockdown we’ve been busy. The last three months have allowed us to go full speed ahead with the redevelopment of our landmark furniture store in Shrewsbury and we hope that the people of Shropshire will feel as invigorated and inspired as we do by what’s been accomplished so far. The start of a whole new furniture and home interiors shopping experience awaits them.
As soon as you walk through the doors, you’ll feel a fresh, new contemporary ambience. The newly tiled, modern entrance area with its innovative video wall provides a taste of what’s to come – a whole new lifestyle furniture department store.
Over to your left, you’ll also catch a glimpse of our new destination lighting department with an extensive choice of pendants, chandeliers, wall lights, table and floor lamps from market leaders, Dar Lighting. This forms the backdrop to a new contemporary furniture department, displaying the latest styles in Scandi chic, modern designer and vintage retro for both the living and dining room. Whether you want the latest velvet sofa, chaise or corner group, or a modern ceramic dining table and chairs, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Everything is expertly displayed and accessorised to give you tips and inspiration on how to complete the look of your living area, along with complementing occasional furniture for stylish space saving ideas.
Next, you’ll discover our brand-new Hammonds fitted furniture department. Whether you want kitchens, bedrooms, home office or general storage, you can have your chosen style, colour and finish, custom-built to perfectly fit your home.
To the right of the entrance area, you can’t miss our newly created Cousins Bespoke Sofa studio, where you can design your own made-to-measure sofas and chairs - in your unique style, to your exact dimensions and personal comfort needs. Individually bench-made locally in the West Midlands, the sofa you configure will perfectly fit your living space.
Opposite, is a large vintage furniture gallery, showcasing classically inspired sofas, occasional and dining furniture, all with a contemporary reinterpretation. Choose from a wealth of different Chesterfield designs, beautifully deep buttoned and tailored in a variety of different materials, from luxurious velvets, to heritage tweeds, wools and characterful natural leathers. Most of the cabinet furniture is reclaimed and has a fashionable aged and distressed finish that will enhance contemporary or traditional surroundings.
From here, you may fancy some refreshments, so why not visit our impressive new 48 seat coffee shop and eatery? This is a significant upgrade on the former upstairs café. It fully deserves its new prime location at the front of house and is probably the first thing that’ll catch your eye as you enter the car park. Designed to a homely industrial style with vintage and botanical vibes, it’s a real cosy haven. Relax in one of our comfy chesterfields or on-trend swivel chairs and feel right at home. The highly acclaimed, handcrafted coffee is roasted right here in Shrewsbury, by Iron & Fire, and has a great selection of food to complement it. So, whether it’s a quick brew to contemplate or a hearty meal to catch-up with friends, you’ll be suitably impressed.
Then feel free to browse. You’ll notice that other areas have had a welcome lick of paint or wallpaper enhancement, to give everything a more colourful backdrop.
All of your favourite brands are still here, whether it’s British heritage from GPlan, Ercol and Parker Knoll or European names, like Stressless, Himolla and Venjakob. Upstairs in bedding, get comfortable with luxury bands Hypnos, Harrison and ViSpring or be cushioned by our technologically advanced Tempur and Mammoth mattresses.

As you no doubt already know, the Shrewsbury store is colossal in size, over six times larger than the average furniture store, so the store redevelopment still has a way to go. Later in the year, we’ll be creating a new destination for dining furniture and also relocating our favourite sofa brands. There’ll also be an all-encompassing comfort centre for your complete wellbeing.
