How to Create an Industrial Style Home

What is Industrial interior style?
Styling your home is something that can be tricky if you don’t know what to choose. With so many creative ideas and designs out there, pinning down one particular theme may be challenging. If you like the thought of rustic finishes and metallic materials mixed with grey tones and colours, industrial style could be for you.
Incorporating raw elements and a back to basics vibe, to create an industrial style home you need to focus on materials. The Avignon bench and dining table boast fuss-free features. You can furnish and decorate your bedroom, living room or dining room using this style. Different metal finishes, such as galvanised, exposed brickwork and reclaimed wood, are all used to achieve the look. It’s all about being minimalistic. Taking inspiration from warehouses, factories, lofts and other industrial structures is a good starting point.
Cousins photographer and stylist, James, said: “Industrial has been a popular trend in interiors and furniture for a while and it doesn’t look to be going anywhere anytime soon. The use of mixed materials makes it very popular, especially reclaimed wood mixed with metal.
“I think industrial pieces of furniture can make your home very unique. No piece is ever really the same. You can have different grains or textures of wood and unfinished metals.
“I particularly like seeing leather incorporated in this style. This is mixed with not only woods and metals but softer materials such as faux fur cushions or faux hide rugs. Edison bulbs are also a favourite too, with accessories and lighting.”
What colours are used in Industrial style?
A range of colours can be used to create an industrial chic style in your home. Metallic greys, rustic shades, and lustrous finishes are very popular. It’s all about being subtle but creating a statement at the same time.
What materials are used in Industrial style?
Although this style is unique to the individual, there are a few staple ideas to consider. For dining and bedroom furniture, you can use natural wood or reclaimed materials for distressed table tops and surfaces. Our Weston range, including the bedside table, is handcrafted to create an industrial twist.
Sofas that are upholstered in leather, such as the luxurious Linum or the Warwick Chesterfield, would complement the raw resources. It is not about being the perfectionist, so think hardwearing, rough edges, bare brick and salvaged pieces.
What textures are used in Industrial style?
The textures used in the industrial style are quite masculine and fuss-free. Anything that suggests lived in, such as worn metal, washed paintwork and roughly cut mesh will work nicely. It is important to keep in mind that simplicity is needed.
Industrial furniture
Dining chairs, such as those in the Jemma range, crafted from a mix of wood and metal will sit comfortably around an oak table. The Kirkcaldy range, incorporating dining and occasional furniture, offers an array of industrial statement pieces. The Veranda coffee table is also a stylish choice. Comfy seating options could take on natural colours such as greys, browns and charcoals. This is alongside tweed. Foot stools, cabinets and sideboards should boast neutral colours.
Industrial accessories
When it comes to accessories, this is where you can really take advantage of the industrial style. A few perfectly placed decorative pieces, such as the Zunyite and Barite lamps, can bring your living room to life. If you are embracing natural textures and simple designs, you can’t go wrong with sleek piped lighting. Our stag and cow pictures, alongside the Gears wall clocks and Leon mirror, add stylish focal points. Scaffold ornaments and decoration will give you a warehouse-inspired look. A statement cowhide rug will provide that sought-after industrialised aura.
Why Industrial?
The industrial style is creative and unique. If you live in an apartment or city area, this style will reflect urban influences. Many people view this flair as being ideal for apartment chic designs. If you live in the countryside or the suburbs however, there is no reason why you can’t embrace this style. You can introduce an industrial twist to your home with selected eclectic pieces, one off accessories and subtle furnishings. Industrial will work as an accent style as well as a whole interior theme.
