Travel Influenced Interiors

Travel influences many things in life, and interiors are no exception. With inspiration coming from across the globe, many different styles have been introduced to homeware and furnishings. Many people use their own ideas gathered from countries they have visited, which adds a personal touch to a home.
Coastline Horizons
From white wash walls to shiplap panelling, coastal is a very popular style. You can mix wood finishes and layer window dressings with shutters, blinds or softly draped linen curtains. A coastal style room is light with furnishings in soft tones. It evokes breeziness of a beach and leaves you with the feeling of summer all year round. The definition of coastal is nothing less than calm.

When designers envision a coastal theme, they lean on nautical colours of blues, reds and white. Many people think of checked or striped linen fabrics that are reminiscent of deckchairs and beach huts. Natural woods and chalky painted wooden furniture or flooring is also included. Consider wicker baskets, rattan furnishings, sisal rugs and natural wood, all of which have elements that bring coastal styling together. Why not use the shells you have collected from your holiday visits and display them in glass jars or vases? Faux white coral makes an almost simplistic abstract feature when used to dress shelves or sideboards. Soft lighting and lanterns in wooden or metal finishes enhance this theme like the Newel, Trevose or Setter antique wood lanterns or maybe take a look at the Paulo wood table lamp with its distressed decking type finish. The Hemsby Bleach clock would sit effortlessly upon a wall.
The Orla sofa from the Cousins Bespoke Collection with its soft tones of duck egg and eau de nil plaid cushions oozes elements of the coast. Dressed with the natural wood, the Nord Console and side table and clear glass bubble lamps can be teamed with the natural elements of the Soumak Rugs. This scheme has a really light and airy quality.

If you are furnishing a bedroom, consider the Bournemouth range with its beautifully curved lines and bow fronts, handcrafted from recycled and reclaimed wood. Cover the bed in crisp white or striped bed linen and add layers with our sea foam quilted or wooden chunky knit throws. Lamps such as the Radford or Indie sit effortlessly on bedside tables. Layer wooden, painted floor boards with rugs that include nautical elements. The Clover blue, Katherine Carnaby varied stripe or sisal rugs complement this. You could hang long draped white muslin curtains that softly diffuse the light from the window and blow gently with the breeze.

Aegean Blues
For an Aegean influence, think of inky blues, teals, and soft aqua and turquoise shades. These will be set against a bright, fresh white backdrop. The hues are associated with peace, calm and comfort, perfect for creating a tranquil home. Nothing is more warming and relaxing than the Cyclades Islands of Greece. There is no surprise that 2021 home styling has taken a leap towards the clean, fresh and relaxing favourite holiday destination.

This styling is simplistic in form. Turquoise, green or blue painted door and window frames border the room whilst blue tones are picked up in furniture colour choices. Feature stone walls have become apparent in the Mediterranean home, bringing in natural elements. Use vivid blue and white accessories, such as vases, plates and soft furnishings.
The Heidi Bedroom collection with its clean white shapes works well with contrasting blue and white bedding and throws. The wool mix diagonal stripes cushions can be used as a deep blue base colour and the natural white ceramic base of the Mabel lamp keeps to the softer side of the style. The Agate mirror is decorative and is finished in a simple white wash and creates elegance in the room.

Velvet sofas such as the Calibre corner sofa are featured in the azure blues and greens, and are softer and warmer in a room. Take a look at the Sacha leather collection and mix white and blue which mimics the contrast of the Aegean colour scheme perfectly. Team with the Waves print foil cushion and Saturn Blue rug to reflect the blue ocean hues. If you want to add some warmth, consider the Amelie Sundown which has warm tones of oranges against blues. For a softer upholstered look, the Carla collection is available in a beautiful blue toned fabric.
Tropical Tranquil

Why not give this style a slightly tropical glam look by using the Malabar occasional furniture range? This range features intricate carving details inspired from classic Indian designs, but finished in a rich brown polished wood with brass tapered legs and handles. It has a modern, elegant, element to it but would work beautifully against the tropical brights of this style. To carry on giving this style a more glamorous touch, use Rainforest depths and Statuesque canvasses on the wall.

Worldly Travels
Over the past couple of years, we have been seeing more and more African, world influenced, geometric monotone styled prints and animals. This could be zebras, lions, elephants or monkeys. Global influences will continue to reflect in our home styling choices. Look for warm earth tones when using this style. Consider furniture and lighting made with reclaimed woods, mango woods and rattan furniture. The Masai collection plays with carved textures, making it perfect occasional furniture with this style. Masai is slightly more rustic in appearance, with tribal inspired patterned draw fronts. Used with the Bonita reclining sofa in earthy brown tones, it’s easy to see why the Masai works so well when bringing the tribal influences into your room.

For a slightly more contemporary twist with sentiments of African plains, look at the Aiteka dining table with its reclaimed solid teak root base. Coupled with lamps such as Tolborough, this scheme can look lighter and modern in its styling. If a lighter scheme is needed in the bedroom, the Mondelli bedroom collection sits seamlessly with the light colour tones of teals, greens and sea mist.

Enjoy classic tones with leather chesterfields and sofas such as the Warwick, Bamburgh or Hexham with a tan leather finish. Add a classic wing chair to this more polished safari look. Introduce travel trunks or old leather suitcases stacked as coffee tables or large trunks for storage at the end of beds. Window dressing may consist of plantation shutters in wood finishes and layered with soft muslin drapes.
Shelving units like Kielder or the Veranda bookcase will showpiece your collection of safari animal ornaments, apothecary jars, world globes or glass dome bell jars. Place lamps such as the Altham glass dome lamp in the room. The Hawse floor and table lamp also go with the refined safari theme with the slatted wood shade.
