Cousins Furniture Marks 40 Years with a Heartfelt Celebration

Last Saturday, 9th August, Cousins Furniture celebrated an incredible milestone — 40 years in business — with a joyful reunion at The Himley House Hotel & Restaurant, bringing together past and present members of staff for an unforgettable evening.

The event was a true family affair, as retired colleagues, current team members, and their families came together to share fond memories, laughter, and pride in the company’s journey. Guests enjoyed welcome drinks and a sumptuous buffet before a heartfelt speech from Managing Director John Shotton, who reflected on the company’s history and the people who have shaped it. The night concluded with a lively disco, ensuring the dance floor was full until the very end.

Among the honoured guests was David Lane, who dedicated over 28 years to Cousins, joining the team when the Dudley store first opened in 1996 — and remaining a much-loved figure until his retirement. Also in attendance were Pam and Diane, both long-serving personal assistants to co-founder and chairman Robert Shotton, whose loyalty dates back to the company’s origins at Coles of Bilston in 1985.

It was also a celebration of the next generation, with four generations of the Shotton family present — including Robert’s first great-grandchild, Matilda, born just over five weeks ago.

“This was more than a party,” said John Shotton. “It was a chance to celebrate the people who have built Cousins Furniture into what it is today — a family-run business with community at its heart.”

The evening was a fitting tribute to four decades of craftsmanship, customer care, and community spirit. Here’s to many more years of furnishing homes across the Midlands!
